Thanksgiving Facts
Since 1957, Thanksgiving in Canada has been celebrated on the second Monday of October. Actually the first Canadian Thanksgiving was celebrated by the English explorer, Martin Frobisher in 1578. He was thankful for his safe arrival in the province which we know as Newfoundland.This holiday is connected with showing gratitude for the harvest. Families and friends usually gather around the table for a turkey dinner.
Cranberry sauce is often served with the meat. Did you know that the cranberry is a native plant of Canada? A famous cranberry festival in Bala, Ontario is always held the weekend following Thanksgiving.You may recognize the horn of plenty, the cornucopia, as a symbol of the harvest.
